Looking at copyright beyond the US borders
While working in the Canadian library arena, I became educated to the singular nature of the US conception of copyright and fair use. Professor Michael Geist, University of Ottawa, is the voice to follow to gather details about the legal and intellectul concerns around both Canadian and North American copyright concerns. In this blog posting, he reports on a surprise call made by the US Concerning the Trans Pacific Partnership on fair use.
For more on the concerns and issues related to negotiating international intellectual property laws, see his post for today, discussing the formal and final exit of current ACTA (Anti-counterfeiting Trade Agreement) stipulations.
